FOOD FOR TOMORROW / CAP ALIMENT : PRESENTATION
Food for Tomorrow / Cap Aliment is a collaborative program which that seeks to strengthen synergies between the various stakeholders of the research, education and innovation sectors, in the fields of agri-food science and sustainable food systems, in Pays de la Loire. The goals are both to enhance the visibility and to promote the competitiveness of regional expertise at national and international level.

THE CHALLENGE
How do we feed nine billion people in 2050 while ensuring the sanitary, organoleptic and nutritional quality of food, the protection of the environment and ecosystems,consumer enjoyment and cost efficiency for shared value creation?
That is the great challenge that 21st century food and agriculture stakeholders must tackles in order forsustainable food systems to emerge.
OUR CONTRIBUTION
At the initiative of the Pays de la Loire Region, acollaborativeResearch, Education and Innovation program entitledFood for Tomorrow / Cap Aliment has been launched in 2015.
This program, led by Cap Aliment in association with the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRAE) and the Nantes Atlantic College of Veterinary Medicine, Food Science and Engineering (Oniris), seeks to strengthen synergies between theresearch,educationandinnovationworlds, in the agri-food science and sustainable food systems in Pays de la Loire. The goal is to promote the competitiveness of regional expertise at national and international level.
OUR COLLECTIVE AIm
To become aninterdisciplinary European Centre of Excellencein the agri-foodfield.
The program is coordinated by Cap Aliment andimplemented by:
• For the “Research” pillar, regional research units involved in food science (including HSS fields) and engineering, especially those of INRAE, the Universities of Nantes, Angers and Maine, Agrocampus Ouest, ESA, IFREMER and CRNH Ouest.
• For the “Education”pillar, the sections and departments of educational institutions delivering learning programme in food science (including HSS fields) and engineering, especially those of Oniris, Agrocampus Ouest, ESA and the universities of Nantes, Angers and Maine.
• For the “Innovation”pillar, the members of Cap Aliment and Valorial.

- Many professional organizations, transfer and valorization structures
- > 300 researchers, lecturer-researchers and engineers
- > 800 regional agri-food industries
- 14 Million euros of budget over 5 years.
